Experience

I have worked as a teacher and tutor for a major international test preparation company, and I have also tutored independently for nearly a decade. Education is truly the key to success, and I love helping my students achieve their academic and professional goals. I have a lot of experience tutoring college and high school students in biology, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. I scored at the top of my class, and in the 90th percentile of the Physical Sciences (Chemistry and Physics) and in the 95th percentile in the Biological Sciences section of the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test). I also scored in the 92nd percentile of the nationally administered American Chemical Society's ACS exam in Organic Chemistry. I also have significant experience teaching effective writing and reading skills, as well as essay writing and preparation, for students at the high school, college, and professional levels. My academic background has given me the opportunity to write in different styles, so I am very comfortable with science writing as well as writing for the humanities. In addition, I have a lot experience helping students craft effective and concise personal statements and essays for applications to jobs, college, graduate school, or professional school. In addition, I have also successfully tutored students in high school level math, including algebra and pre-algebra. I believe that learning is an active and collaborative process. I approach tutoring as a process of inquiry, not like a lecture. I specialize in breaking down concepts and helping students understand "why" rather than simply memorizing the material. I will work with you to formulate a plan that works for you and your unique learning style and needs. I know first-hand that learning is not one-size fits all, and I have experience teaching students of many different educational and linguistic backgrounds and learning styles. The student always comes first, and I am constantly incorporating feedback to improve and custom-fit my lessons to best suit each individual student. I love teaching, and over the years it has given me great joy to offer each student practical recommendations and solutions to build confidence while improving skills and knowledge. I earned my undergraduate degree from Cornell University, my Master's from CUNY Hunter College, and I will be matriculating to medical school this Fall. My academic background is well-rounded and very strong in the sciences as well as the humanities, allowing me to work with a diverse array of students. If you have any additional questions about my qualifications, or if you'd like to set up a session, please feel free to contact me! Thank you!
